  2. Under "Template Type", select the assessment template for which you would like to access the Executive Summary Outline.

Notes
Outlines for different template types are customized and saved separately.

Editing an Executive Summary Outline

The template editor supports a rich text editor interface where you can insert structured content, formatted text, and placeholders. By default, this will be populated with Valency's standard templates, which are based on industry best practice and Valency expert guidance.

To edit the Executive Summary Outline:
  1. Select the arrows icon to navigate to full screen view for easier editing. Reselect this icon at any time to return to the original view.
  2. Click in the text editor box to add, change, or remove text.
  3. Use the editor functions to format your text (colour, style, tables, images, etc.). Hovering over any icon in the editor functions box will display a tooltip of its purpose.
  4. Use Headings to organize the sections of your outline.
  5. Use bracketed values ("[ short description ]") to indicate where manual entry is expected from your facilitators.
  6. Use parameters (merge fields) to auto-fill project data when the template is used. These are highlighted in yellow. Please see Executive Summary Parameters for a complete list of parameter options and their intended use.
  7. For more advanced formatting edits, click on the Source button to access the HTML editor. All edits done here must be performed in HTML coding. We recommend only completing HTML edits if you have experienced in HTML. Contact Valency Support for specific HTML editor questions.
  8. If full screen mode was being used, re-click the arrows icon to return to the original view.
  9. Click Save.
Warning
Click Reset to revert all changes to the standard Valency outline. Once selected, you cannot go back to your saved edits.

Testing the Executive Summary Outline

To see how your outline will look on an actual assessment:
  1. Scroll down to the Sample Assessment section.
  2. Select a sample assessment from the dropdown menu.
  3. Review the executive summary text to see how your outline will look in an assessment.

Adding Images

Adding images to your executive summaries is one way to make them more company-specific and visually appealing. For example, you may choose to input an image of your company-specific front end planning stage-gate process in PDRI executive summaries.

There are three ways in which images can be added:
  1. Copy & paste
  2. Drag & drop
  3. Using the text editor functions
To add an image using the drag & drop feature:
  1. Locate the image you want to use in your computer files application.
  2. Click and drag the image from the files window to the text editor in Carve.
To add an image using the text editor functions:
  1. Locate the image you want to use online.
  2. Right click on the image and select "Copy image address"
  3. Within Carve, select the image icon in the text editor functions.
  4. Paste the image address into the URL field.
  5. Click OK to insert the image.

Formatting Images

To format the image once it has been added to the Executive Summary Outline:
  1. Hover over an image to display the "move image" option (top left corner) and the "resize" option (bottom right corner).
  2. Right click on the image and select Image Properties to change the alignment, size, and add an image caption.
  3. Click save after image formatting changes have been completed.
