Commissioning & Operational Readiness Scoring

Commissioning & Operational Readiness Scoring

A project’s readiness score is a single unified metric, expressed as a percentage. These scores provide a standardized measure of readiness that can be used to track the progress of a project over time, or to monitor and compare readiness of projects in a portfolio.

There is different scoring logic for the Commissioning & Operational Readiness V1.0 and the Commissioning & Operational Readiness V2.0 templates. The method for scoring each template type is given below.

COR V1.0 Scoring

There are two options available for Commissioning & Operational Readiness V1.0 scoring. The Session Details tab of a Commissioning Assessment is used to configure what type of readiness score is viewed.

1. Transition Readiness Score

This score refers to the transition readiness for the next active commissioning phase, based on the last category answered for the Assessment. For example, a Commissioning & Operational Readiness Assessment that scored a 76% in the Pre-Commissioning Category, will show the following transition readiness score for Commissioning.

Within this scoring option:
  1. Less than 75% is a clear indicator of a project that is not ready for the next commissioning phase
  2. A score of 75 – 85% is considered borderline, and
  3. A score of greater than 85% represents a transition-ready project.
Within Professional and Enterprise edition companies, Admin users can customize these score ranges and colours.

2. Overall Readiness Score

This score refers to the overall transition readiness across all commissioning phases (all Categories). This is particularly useful in shutdown/turnaround/outage driven projects where preparation for commissioning and operational readiness must be done prior to the start of the shutdown/turnaround/outage, or in large projects that are later in the commissioning process and are now focused on overall readiness.

The overall readiness score is best used when the majority of the Categories have been assessed.

COR V2.0 Scoring

This template provides a single Overall Readiness Score that reflects progress relative to the full lifecycle of the project. This score is lower in earlier phases of the project, and increases towards 100% as you reach the Startup phase. Because the Overall Readiness Score is always measured against the full list of factors, scores will be low in early phases and increase as more work is completed in later phases.
For example:
  1. In Mid Detailed Design, only a small number of factors are expected, so the maximum achievable score is around 3%.
  2. In Late Pre-Commissioning, a much larger number of factors are expected, increasing the maximum achievable score to around 61%.
  3. In Startup, all factors are expected, allowing the score to reach 100%.
Each phase includes a Target Score Range that shows what "good" performance looks like for that phase, based on the factors that are expected to be complete at that point in the project.
Target ranges are shown as color-coded guidance:
  1. Grey - Less than 75% of the expected factors are complete.
  2. Yellow - 75-85% of the expected factors are complete.
  3. Green - 85-100% of the expected factors are complete.
For example, in Late Pre-Commissioning, only factors from Detailed Design, Construction, and Pre-Commissioning are expected. These factors represent 61% of the total assessment, therefore the target score ranges are 45% (yellow) and 51% (green) with a maximum possible score of 61%.

Factors that are beyond the current phase of the assessment will appear greyed out in the factor list. These factors can still be answered, but they will not contribute to the overall score.
