Manage Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
Carve supports optional Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) on user login. Multi-factor authentication requires users to set up a third-party authenticator app that generates a code to be entered in Carve when the user tries to log in. Company Admin users can enable MFA for individual users or for the entire company. You must enable MFA for yourself before it can be enabled company-wide.
If SSO is enabled, you will not be able to turn on MFA for any users through Carve. In this case, MFA should be managed through your sign-in provider (e.g Microsoft)
Enable MFA
To enable MFA for yourself:
- Navigate to your Profile page.
- Click the 'MFA Required' checkbox.
- You will immediately be prompted to set up your authenticator app for Carve.
Turn on MFA for the logged in user.
To enable MFA for other users:
- Navigate to Admin > Users.
- Click the 'MFA Required' checkbox.
- The next time the user logs in, they will be prompted to set up their authenticator app for Carve.
Turn on MFA for an individual user.
Turn On Company-Wide MFA
You must enable MFA for yourself before it can be enabled company wide.
To enable company-wide MFA:
- Navigate to your Profile page and verify that MFA is enabled for yourself.
- Navigate to the Company Details page.
- Click the checkbox to 'Require MFA for all users.'
- Click Save.
When MFA is turned on company wide, it will automatically be enabled for all users and it is not possible to turn off for individual users. The next time each user signs into Carve, they will be prompted to set up their authenticator app for Carve.
Turn on MFA company-wide.Reset MFA
You may want to reset MFA if a user needs to set it up on a new device, or if they are experiencing issues. When MFA has been reset, Carve will prompt the user to go through the MFA setup process again on their next login.
To reset MFA for yourself or another user:
- Navigate to Admin > Users.
- Select the user from the list.
- Click 'Reset MFA.'
- The next time the user logs in, they will be prompted to set up their authenticator app for Carve.
